I know this is coming out ridiculously late! Life took over…and I lost the writing bug a tiny bit!
For those of you who missed it, back last summer, I wrote an article on my first impressions of each of the 11 scents available to purchase on the Riddle Oil website at the time. If you’d like to catch up, you can read the article here!
Anyway, here’s the follow up on my experience with Riddle Oil since receiving my sample pack!
Since I first ordered my oils, Riddle have actually changed the selection available for purchase. They’ve actually cut down from the original 11 to just 5 and I have mixed opinions about this!
Before I get into that, here are the current options:
ORIGINAL – A CLEAN, SUBTLE AMBER OIL WITH A LIGHT MUSKY BASE NOTE. THIS UNIQUE OIL SMELLS DIFFERENT ON EVERYONE AND IS CONSIDERED A PHEROMONE SCENT.
SANTAL – THE SPICY CARDAMOM AND SANDALWOOD ARE THE MOST PRESENT NOTES IN THIS SCENT. SANTAL HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS BOLD, CRISP AND WOODSY.
MUSE – THIS SCENT IMMEDIATELY MAKES YOU SMILE. THE AMBER, PEACH AND COCONUT NOTES LEAD THIS SCENT MAKING A YUMMY AND SWEET FRAGRANCE THAT IS HARD TO NOT LOVE AND FIND PLAYFULLY EXCITING.
POPPY – BRIGHT, FRESH AND CLEAN. ORANGE BLOSSOM AND LEMON COMBINE TO CREATE AN INSTANT ENERGY BOOST. THE ROSE AND YLANG YLANG CREATE A CONFIDENT FEELING MAKING THIS A GREAT SCENT FOR UPLIFTING THE SPIRIT.
EX – SEDUCTIVE AND SOPHISTICATED THIS SCENT HAS DEEP ROSE AND LEATHER NOTES. A TRULY CLASSIC AND REFINED SCENT.
You can find this new sample pack on the Riddle Oil website.
Now, I don’t know the reason behind the scale down but I can only assume that certain scents weren’t doing so well and that the large choice available was making it hard for some customers to pick a purchase?! I guess that’s what happened to me and is why I ended up buying the sample pack.
To be honest…I think it was a good decision. Especially as many of the oils that didn’t make the cut are the same ones I’ve left in the bottom of my drawers collecting dust.
The ONLY exception to this is NORTHWIND! Riddle if you’re reading this, BRING NORTHWIND BACK!!
If you remember, out of the box, Original, Muse and Northwind were my favourite scents and I was most excited about wearing them. I can see how Muse and Northwind were kind of similar in a sweet and fruity way, so maybe one of them had to go. But seriously, I wear these 2 scents the most and Northwind has double/triple the staying power that Muse does! It’s so delicious and now I have to ration it because it doesn’t exist anymore! 😦
In fact, I found that Northwind lasted the longest out of all of the fragrances… In particular, Original seems to disappear very quickly on my skin. I know Riddle have a section about this on their site and so I’ve tried to give it a fair shot as I really do like the way it smells – subtle and slightly musky.
I’ve put it on after a goood moisturising of just pure argan oil and checked to see if others can smell it on me after a few hours when I may have just gotten used to it. But nope. It just isn’t there anymore. Now I’m no nose expert so there could be a reason for this – maybe I’m not wearing enough of it??
Back to the other scents:
I think I only tried Santal on myself once but it really wasn’t for me. On the skin it comes off very spicy and sophisticated (obviously not my vibe :P) and I found it suited Mr H much better! It also lasted a lot longer on his skin than on mine and was especially nice as a summer evening scent on him. In fact, I think I could still faintly smell it on him the next morning! For me, this unisex scent is slightly more masculine for my personal taste but give it a go if you like a woody/spicy perfume!
Finally out of the original 4, Poppy. It’s a light, musky, floral. Very different to what I would normally wear but as far as floral scents go, I really like it. It’s not one I wear very often but I can see why Riddle chose to keep it in the final 5. As far as staying power goes, it lasts longer than Original and Muse but not as long as Northwind!
Ex is a brand new fragrance that I haven’t actually tried. As far as I can tell, each scent in the current selection has a complete different profile – Original is musky and pheromone based, Santal is woody and spicy, Muse is sweet and fruity and Poppy is flowery and musky. So I’m assuming that Ex also brings something completely different to the table – hopefully one day I’ll get to give it a sniff!
If any of the fragrances that I wrote about in my last article did appeal to you more, you can still purchase some of them (including lotions/candles/oils etc) on sale at the Riddle Oil website, under the ‘Last Call‘ tab. You can also grab an extra 10% off if you use the code WELCOMERIDDLEFAM. In case you couldn’t tell, I highly recommend stocking up on Northwind if, like me, you like to smell like starburst!
If you have any questions about any of the other scents still available under Last Call then leave me a comment and I’ll try to answer as best as I can!
